The Raven Remix

Once upon an evening

So much like a midnight dreary

As I pondered on my life

So very weak and weary.

There came a rap…

rap…

rapping.

On my chamber’s door.

Then a tap…

tap….

tapping.

On my window right.

Where is someone to help me in my plight?

Rap

Rap

Rapping on my chamber’s door.

Next a scratch…

scratch…..

scratching.

Upon my chamber floor.

Tap

Tap

Tapping on my window right.

Rap

Rap

Rapping on my chamber door.

Someone help there’s nowhere to run!

Rap

Tap

Scratch

Rap

Tap

Scratch

It comes! It comes!

But what is it?

Opening the door against my instinct I looked…

A branch blown by the storm.

Tap

Scratch

Tap

Scratch

Emboldened, out the window I peer.

In flies a raven proud and strong.

“Nevermore” it whispers,

but I don’t listen.

Scratch

Scratch

Scratch

Into the basement I run.

Shrieking

Screaming

Silence envelopes all.

A small puddle of blood, all that’s left of my plight.

Happy Halloween everyone! I hope you enjoyed this one. I wrote it back in 2004 (10/21/04) after reading Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven” for the first time. In the comments try writing a poem based on this classic poem like I did. The one with the most likes will receive a mystery bag!
